Jordan Garbis is the founder of Haystack Media, a New York City based music tastemaker enabling music distribution through influential and differentiated delivery mediums. Its music social network, Haystack.com is a leading music destination where music listeners create and share playlists with others. Haystack’s newest product, The Haystack Network, delivers music through playlists embedded in ad units co-sponsored by brand advertisers.
Jordan got his start in music in 1998 as the front man for a nationally touring rock group, NOXCUSE. He earned his bachelors degree from Emory University in Atlanta with an emphasis in music, sociology and business. His thesis, entitled, “The Internationalization of Grunge: Distinction and Influence on Modern Rock and Roll” focused on the social underpinnings of genre in music and the mass shifts in taste that lead to the creation of a modern music era in the mid 1990’s.
At Haystack, Jordan raised $1.6MM in angel and venture capital from industry leaders and has licensed 120,000 tracks from 3,500 labels for free on-demand streaming in one of the first ad revenue-share-based music licensing agreements.
He has been recognized as a young innovator in the digital media industry. In 2007, he taught classes at Syracuse University and held a special session at the Wharton Technology Conference. He was recently interviewed for an article on social networking published in the New York Post and in 2006 was nominated for BusinessWeek’s top 25 entrepreneurs under 25 in 2006
Jordan currently resides in Murray Hill in New York City. In his spare time he dabbles with expanding his musical horizons and sampling the digital strata for new ideas. He hasn’t missed a Ravens game in three years; so don’t call during game time.
